O Maarit:

Doctor degree in chemistry (Helsinki University, 2007) University studies in psychology One year professional education on dogs’ behavior and characteristics as a species

Maarit begun obedience training with her first border collie in 2010. The dog was very motivated to work, but his health was not good enough for extensive training. Soon after the early retirement of this first dog, she gave home to a new border collie, Stjerne who has several well-known herding dogs in her pedigree, but also obedience dogs. Her third border collie Andy comes from Poland, and has mainly herding dogs in his pedigree. Andy is a great dog but very different from Stjerne, which gives Maarit a perfect opportunity to learn a lot about dogs as well as to experience whether it is different to exercise obedience with a dog whose pedigree is full of trial dogs.

Maarit believes that the relationship of the handler and the dog is the most important thing in obedience. The dog must be able to trust the handler also in a competition situation. Motivation comes second - both handler and dog need to have motivation in obedience training. The dog should not work only because of toys or treats, but because it enjoys working and having fun together with the handler. The third important factor is the focus in the tasks given, so that the dog really is able and willing to listen the handler’s commands. Stjerne (2012) 2014 Finnish obedience Champion 2014 Fifth in Finnish national championship competition 2016 Winner of Finnish national championship competition 2017 Danish obedience Champion 2017 Second in World Championship competition Andy Unlimited Sheepdog (2014): 2016 Finnish obedience Champion 2017 14th in Finnish national championship competition Some videos on her YouTube channel:
